Transition to 12-year education in Kyrgyzstan will fail - deputy

Jogorku Kenesh deputy Kamila Talieva expressed doubts about Kyrgyzstan's readiness to switch to a 12-year education system. At a meeting of the parliamentary committee on social policy, she suggested considering 10-year education, citing the country's lack of preparation for the reform.

She said the Ministry of Education and Science was counting on USAID support, but most of the educational projects funded by the agency have been closed. In this regard, the MP believes that the implementation of the reform may face serious difficulties.

Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a concept for the phased introduction of 12-year education, which includes retraining of teachers, updating of curricula and modernisation of school infrastructure. The authorities are confident that this will make it possible to create a more flexible and modern education system in line with international standards.
