The first Kyrgyz national to conquer Everest has been appointed head of the State Agency for Tourism Development

Eduard Kubatov has been appointed director of the State Agency for Tourism Development under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic. The relevant decree was signed by President Sadyr Japarov.

Kubatov is one of the country’s most famous mountaineers. He became the first Kyrgyz to conquer Everest and has also climbed other of the world’s highest peaks, including K2. In professional circles, he is known as an expedition organiser and head of the Kyrgyz Republic’s Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation.

In addition to his sporting career, Kubatov has experience in the fields of security and business. He previously served in the national security services and holds the rank of retired lieutenant colonel.
