08/01/2026, 14:29In just five days, from 27 to 31 July, Kyrgyzstanis consumed 233.25 million kWh of electricity. By local standards, this is relatively little, but at average European Union prices, such a volume would cost a small fortune — approximately 6.8 billion KGS.
According to daily data from the Ministry of Energy, Kyrgyzstan consumed an average of around 46.65 million kWh per day. Thus, over the working week, the country’s power grid supplied 233.25 million kWh to consumers.
If we were to estimate this volume based on the average retail price for EU households — €0.2896 per kWh (Eurostat data as at the end of the second quarter of 2025), — its value would amount to €67.55 million or 6.8 billion KGS (at the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan’s official exchange rate as at 1 August: 100.773 KGS to €1).
By way of comparison, based on the current basic residential tariff in Kyrgyzstan – 1.64 KGS per kWh, which already takes into account the increase effective from 1 May 2026 – the same volume can be estimated at approximately 382.5 million KGS. This means that, based on the average European domestic tariff, the electricity would have cost almost 18 times as much.
However, this is a rough comparison. Total consumption includes not only households but also businesses, government bodies and other consumers, for whom different tariffs apply. Therefore, these calculations do not represent the actual revenue of energy companies, but rather a rough estimate.
The difference clearly illustrates just how affordable electricity remains in Kyrgyzstan. However, the low price often encourages wasteful consumption. And although the country’s power system is currently operating normally, the Ministry of Energy is urging people to use electricity sparingly, particularly during peak load hours.
