07/08/2026, 15:30The refurbishment of the 110/10 kV ‘Muras’ substation in Bishkek is nearing completion, following which its capacity will increase from 40 to 80 MVA. According to Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Energy, Altynbek Rysbekov, the facility will ensure a reliable electricity supply to new residential areas and key infrastructure facilities in the south-western part of the capital.
He said the decision to expand the substation’s capacity was taken in line with Bishkek’s master plan for development, which envisages extensive high-rise construction and rising electricity consumption.
“Last year, the first 40 MVA transformer was installed here. This year, the second phase is under construction and a second transformer is being installed. As a result, the substation’s total capacity will reach 80 MVA,” said the minister.
The main consumer will be the “Bishkek Arena” stadium, with a capacity of 51,200 spectators, where the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games will take place. In addition, the substation will supply electricity to the residential buildings currently under construction by the State Mortgage Company (GIK), the “Muras United” football club, and other major facilities located in the area.
According to the Ministry of Energy, a T-1 power transformer with a capacity of 40,000/10 kVA has already been installed at the substation, and the installation of the 10 kV and 110 kV busbar sections has been completed. Construction and installation work is scheduled to be fully completed by 15 July, after which the equipment will be put into regular operation.
As Altynbek Rysbekov noted, the commissioning of the substation will enable the load to be redistributed among the capital’s power facilities and reduce the load on the ‘Novo-Yuzhnaya’, ‘Archa-Beshik’ and ‘Pikovaya Kotelnaya’ substations, thereby improving the reliability of the electricity supply to the south-western part of Bishkek. The Minister emphasised that energy officials do not anticipate any problems with the electricity supply during major international events held in the capital.
