Half a century without cleaning: plans to restore reservoirs in the Chui region

Deputy Prime Minister Erlist Akunbekov made a working trip to the Chui region to familiarize himself with the current state of the irrigation infrastructure.

The main purpose of the visit was to study the actual state of the region's water management facilities, assess the progress of reconstruction and construction work, and familiarize himself with the measures being taken to improve the supply of irrigation water to farmers.

As part of the working trip, the minister visited the Moscow district, where he familiarized himself with the work being carried out on the Spartakovskoye reservoir and the Ak-Suyskaya distribution drainage network (BDN). Responsible managers presented information on the technical condition of the reservoir, the extent of silting, and the efficiency of its operation.

The minister then visited the Zhayylsky district, where he familiarized himself with the activities of the Kara-Baltinsky and Stepninsky reservoirs. These facilities play an important role in ensuring a sustainable water supply to irrigated lands and serve thousands of hectares of agricultural land.

During the trip, special attention was paid to the current state of the reservoirs. According to the minister, many of them have not been cleaned for the past 50 years, which has significantly reduced their design capacity.

For example, a reservoir designed to hold 4.3 million
cubic meters of water currently accumulates about 2 million cubic meters. At the same time, it provides water to 2,100 hectares of irrigated land. According to economic calculations, the existing volume is insufficient for full water supply. Additional water is supplied from the Bolshoy Chui Canal and the Kara-Balta River.

“Our key task is to put the existing reservoirs in order, clean them, restore their design capacity, and improve their operational efficiency before starting new construction,” Erlist Akunbekov emphasized.

Following the working trip, appropriate instructions were given on the modernization of irrigation infrastructure, the phased cleaning and reconstruction of reservoirs, and the rational and efficient use of water resources.

The implementation of these measures will ensure an uninterrupted supply of irrigation water to farms, increase the sustainability of agricultural production, and strengthen the region's agricultural potential.
