Sown areas in Kyrgyzstan have decreased by more than a thousand hectares

The total sown area in farms of all categories for the 2025 harvest was 1 million 245.6 thousand hectares. This is 1.1 thousand hectares less than a year earlier, or 0.1%.

The reduction is due to a number of factors hindering the use of arable land. The main reason is severe drought, i.e. a lack of moisture in the soil in spring, which resulted in 19,700 hectares not being sown. This accounts for 49.1% of all unused areas. In second place is the malfunctioning of the irrigation network, which took another 6,100 hectares, or 15.2%, out of circulation.

The remoteness and stoniness of the land also played a role, accounting for 4,700 hectares (11.7%), as did the allocation of land for industrial development, the expansion of settlements and other needs, accounting for 7,900 hectares (19.7%).

Thus, despite the total area under cultivation remaining at last year's level, irrigation problems and climatic factors are having a noticeable impact on agriculture in the republic.
