07/31/2026, 10:03The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zaparov, stated that the main outcome of the state visit by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Kyrgyzstan was the signing of the Treaty on Alliance Relations between the two countries. The Head of State made this announcement following bilateral talks in Cholpon-Ata.
According to Japarov, the document consolidates the level of trust achieved, establishes a new political and legal framework for bilateral relations, and sets out a long-term agenda for joint development. To implement the agreements reached, the parties have also established an Intergovernmental Council.
During the talks, the presidents discussed cooperation in the fields of the economy, transport, energy, security, cross-border cooperation and humanitarian ties. The parties reaffirmed their intention to accelerate the implementation of major regional projects, including the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway and the Kambarat-1 hydroelectric power station, and agreed to give fresh impetus to the work of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz Development Fund.
Particular attention was paid to issues relating to the state border. According to the President of Kyrgyzstan, the parties have fully concluded the settlement of border issues. During the visit, a treaty on the state border was signed, along with protocols to the agreements on border crossing points and mutual travel by citizens. The number of border crossing points between the two countries has been increased from 15 to 30, and the period during which citizens may stay in each other’s countries without additional formalities has been extended to 15 days.
In addition, the presidents endorsed the opening of the Consulate-General of Kyrgyzstan in Andijan and signed a package of bilateral documents covering the fields of agriculture, social security, culture, tourism and education.
Zaparov also thanked the Uzbek side for its support of Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy for the UN Security Council for the period 2027–2028 and invited Shavkat Mirziyoyev to attend the opening of the 6th World Nomad Games, the SCO summit and the second ‘Bishkek+25’ Mountain Summit in 2027.
