Retail trade in Kyrgyzstan has picked up pace: growth driven by markets and specialist shops

In March 2026, Kyrgyzstan recorded a significant increase in retail trade. Compared to March 2025, sales of food products rose by 17.5%, whilst non-food sales increased by 1.3 times.

According to first-quarter data, this trend continues in both segments. In January, turnover of food products amounted to 34 billion 471.5 million KGS, in February – 33 billion 821.3 million KGS, and in March reached 40 billion 4.9 million KGS. In annual terms, growth in March stood at 17.5%.

The non-food goods segment is showing a more pronounced acceleration. In January, turnover stood at 33,119.7 KGS, in February at 33,686.3 KGS, and in March at 38,590.2 KGS. Year-on-year growth in March reached 32.8%.

Total retail trade, including catering establishments, increased by 17.2% in January–March compared with the same period last year. Specialised retail organisations and markets made a key contribution to this growth.

Current trends point to an expansion in consumer activity and a strengthening of the role of organised trade within the market structure.
