From 2025, Russia's migration legislation will undergo changes

Significant changes in migration legislation will come into force in Russia from 2025, which will affect foreign citizens, including citizens of Kyrgyzstan. This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From January 1, 2025 the period of temporary stay of foreign citizens on the territory of the Russian Federation without special permits will be reduced from 180 days to 90 days within one calendar year. This rule applies to all those who do not have a temporary residence permit (RVP), residence permit (VNZh) or an officially formalized labor or civil law contract.
In addition, a new legal regime, the expulsion regime, will come into effect on February 5, 2025. It will apply to those foreign citizens who are in Russia without legal grounds for residence or stay. The introduction of this regime will significantly strengthen control over compliance with migration legislation.

The new amendments also empower internal affairs bodies and judges to order the expulsion of foreign citizens from Russia for certain offenses. This change is aimed at increasing accountability for non-compliance.

The Ministry urges Kyrgyz citizens to prepare for the changes in advance, check the status of their documents and, if necessary, contact the migration services to regularize their situation.
