Sadyr Zhaparov called Russia a ‘strategic ally and good friend’

An extended meeting has begun in Bishkek as part of Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit. Opening the meeting, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov delivered a speech in which he emphasised the key importance of Russian-Kyrgyz relations and called Moscow a ‘strategic ally and reliable partner.’

In his speech, Zhaparov recalled the long history of mutual support between the peoples of the two countries.

‘For decades, our peoples have demonstrated unity and brotherly support, including during the years of the Great Patriotic War — events that forever determined our common destiny and laid the foundation for our current cooperation,’ said Sadyr Zhaparov.

The president noted that Russia remains one of Kyrgyzstan's most important partners.

‘Russia has been and remains a strategic ally, a reliable partner and a good friend. We consistently value our strong and multifaceted relations with brotherly Russia,’ the head of state continued.

Separately, Sadyr Zhaparov emphasised the stability of the Russian economy and the state's adaptability in the face of changing geopolitics, noting the personal role of Vladimir Putin.

"Russia is demonstrating a high degree of adaptability and stability. We see this as a credit to your personal qualities as a leader. This is not a tribute to politeness, but recognition of your role in international politics,‘ the president said.

Zaparov said that Russia supports Kyrgyzstan ’in all key areas," especially in energy and food security. He added that the strategic consistency of Russian policy strengthens allied cooperation.

According to the president, the bilateral agenda is actively expanding, and economic cooperation is showing positive dynamics:

  • Russia remains one of Kyrgyzstan's largest trade and economic partners;
  • integration within the EAEU opens up new opportunities for cooperation;
  • Russian support contributes to the development of infrastructure, energy, industrial and humanitarian projects.

Zaparov said that by 2025, the number of Russian companies operating in Kyrgyzstan had grown to 1,800, more than three times in recent years.

He paid particular attention to cooperation in the fields of education, culture and migration policy.

"Hundreds of thousands of Kyrgyz citizens work in Russia, contributing to the economies of both countries. Russian universities remain among the most sought-after by young people in Kyrgyzstan. The upcoming negotiations will determine new steps in the development of the partnership. I am confident that their results will lead us to new achievements for the benefit of the peoples of our brotherly countries," concluded Sadyr Zhaparov, giving the floor to Vladimir Putin.
