Sadyr Zhaparov: Launch of solar power plant marks new stage in Kyrgyzstan's energy independence

Today, December 24, Sadyr Zhaparov took part in the official launch ceremony of the first 100 MW solar power plant in the city of Kemin, Chui Region. This was reported on Facebook by the president's press secretary, Askat Alagozov.

Speaking at the event, the head of state emphasized that the commissioning of the facility marks the beginning of an important stage in strengthening the country's energy independence and developing renewable energy sources.

According to the president, Kyrgyzstan previously generated electricity mainly from hydropower resources, but today the development of solar and wind energy has become one of the state's strategic goals. The launch of the plant in Kemin is the first visible example of this course.

Sadyr Zhaparov noted that energy remains a key driver of the economy, as industry, agriculture, services, and other sectors are directly dependent on a stable energy supply. In this regard, he recalled the modernization of the Toktogul HPP, increasing its capacity to 1,440 MW, as well as the commissioning of a number of small HPPs in the regions.

The president said that in recent years, a portfolio of large investment projects in the field of renewable energy has been formed in the country. Twelve investment agreements have been signed between the Cabinet of Ministers and private investors for the construction of solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of over 5 GW.

"The solar power plant project in Kemine was implemented by Eternal Energy. The investment amounted to $56 million, making it one of the largest private investments in solar energy in the history of independent Kyrgyzstan. The annual output of the plant will be about 210 million kWh, which is comparable to the consumption of one district," said Sadyr Zhaparov in his speech.

The head of state emphasized that the implementation of the project will increase tax revenues, create new jobs, and positively impact the socio-economic development of the region without placing an additional burden on the energy infrastructure.

In conclusion, Sadyr Zhaparov noted that the opening of this solar power plant marks a new page in Kyrgyzstan's energy strategy. The transition to sustainable, clean, and safe energy sources is a confident step towards a modern and developed state. Such projects not only strengthen the country's energy independence but also create new opportunities for the regions, contributing directly to economic growth.
