    A meeting of the Coordination Council on Climate Change, Ecology and Sustainable Development was held

    Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliyev chaired a meeting of the Coordination Council on Climate Change, Environment and Sustainable Development under the Cabinet of Ministers. Two issues were included on the agenda of the meeting. Participants reviewed the country programme between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Green Climate Fund for 2025-2028 on climate finance.

    The programme includes six projects:

    • a project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the housing sector of Kyrgyzstan;
    • a project to enhance climate resilience through ecosystem-based adaptation and natural disaster risk management in Kyrgyzstan;
    • a project to improve ecosystem services for increased resilience in the Issyk-Kul mountain area;
    • a project on integrated water resources management based on local initiatives and data for sustainable agriculture in the Batken region;
    • a project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the housing sector in Kyrgyzstan;
    • a project to implement a climate finance programme for small and medium-sized businesses and households.

    The projects presented were discussed and approved by the members of the coordination council and the meeting participants.

    Following the presentation of the projects, Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliyev instructed the heads of the relevant state agencies to work on implementing the approved areas of focus.

    The work plan of the Climate Finance Centre under the Prime Minister's Office for 2025 was also reviewed.

    At the end of the meeting, Adylbek Kasymaliyev noted that the tasks of the Coordination Council are to develop a strategy for interaction with climate funds, review and approve projects to mitigate the effects of climate change and adapt to them, and ensure environmental safety and sustainable development.

    «As you know, the recently approved National Development Programme of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2030 includes a section on “Climate Change Resilience”. One of the key tasks of the state, both in the context of international commitments and within the framework of national policy, is to adapt to climate change and mitigate its effects, as well as to preserve natural ecosystems, species and genetic diversity. Protecting biodiversity, water resources and natural heritage will preserve unique mountain ecosystems for future generations. It is therefore extremely important to take active and timely action», — emphasised Adylbek Kasymaliyev.
