Tax officials detained for abuse of office

The State Committee for National Security has reported the detention of a number of high-ranking employees of the State Tax Service on suspicion of abuse of office.

During the inspection it was found that large producers and importers of excisable products (alcohol, sugar-containing goods, tobacco products) fictitiously reported shipments to the southern regions of the country using forged or withdrawn shipping documents.

Employees of the State Tax Service responsible for control, abusing their official position, ignored numerous facts of revocation and rejection of consignment notes for excisable goods in Bishkek in the amount of more than 3.2 billion soms.

A criminal case was initiated under Article 337 Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic (abuse of official position). Searches were conducted in the district offices of the State Tax Service of Bishkek and in the department for control of large taxpayers. Checks have been appointed to establish the exact amount of damage.

The heads of the STS departments were detained: A.R., J.U., A.N. and T.A. They will be charged in accordance with the procedure established by law, and the court will consider the issue of selecting a preventive measure.

“Such actions cause serious damage to the economy, contribute to the development of the shadow sector and negatively affect the welfare of citizens. The investigation is ongoing and all those responsible, regardless of their position, will be held accountable,” the SCNS concluded.
