Let There Be Water!

Today, on September 5, 2024, a celebratory ceremony took place at the Bash-Karasuu water intake for the launch of 5 new wells, attended by the city's mayor, Aybek Junushaliyev. The event was also attended by deputy mayors, heads of city services, media representatives, and local activists. These 5 additional artesian wells are designed to provide drinking water to the population. This project aims to supply water to 12 villages in Oroka, residential areas of TEC-2, the upper part of Ak-Orgo, Ak-Ordo, and the southern part of Archa-Beshik. Connecting the new wells will significantly reduce the load on the Orto-Alysh water intake, increasing the production capacity of Bash-Karasuu to 500 cubic meters per hour. Drilling works for the wells began in May of this year. Support and expedited actions in the water sector by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic made this project possible. To expand the Bash-Karasuu water intake, the Cabinet of Ministers allocated and transformed a 9.3-hectare plot of land and provided funding amounting to 150 million soms. The new wells are 200 meters deep and equipped with submersible pumps. Pipelines from each well to the main collector water conduit have been laid, including the installation of reinforced concrete manholes, 150 mm diameter valves, and check valves. Various diameter water mains, ranging from 275 mm to 500 mm, have been constructed, along with an underground chamber with two 500 mm diameter valves to ensure water supply to the eastern and western reservoirs. To ensure uninterrupted operation of the new wells, two additional transformers have been installed. The work on a 159 mm diameter water pipeline from the water intake to the village of Bash-Karasuu, stretching 2.3 km, has been completed. Currently, the construction of a booster pumping station is underway, which will allow the project to be fully completed.
