Insurance becomes mandatory: a new law comes into force in Kyrgyzstan

A law on compulsory insurance signed by President Sadyr Zhaparov on April 24 has come into force in Kyrgyzstan. The document amends three key laws and aims to strengthen the protection of citizens' property rights and ensure financial security in emergency situations.

Under the new requirements, vehicle owners are now required to take out compulsory civil liability insurance. This means that driving a car without a valid motor third-party liability insurance policy is now a violation of the law.

Homeowners must also provide insurance policies covering fire and natural disasters when registering their rights to residential premises. This rule is being introduced to increase the financial security of citizens in the event of loss or damage to their homes due to emergencies.

In addition, clarifications have been made to the law “On Pledge.” Now, pledged property must be insured, and the pledgee receives a preferential right to insurance compensation in the event of loss of the pledged item.
