Souvenirs are losing popularity, but demand for yurts, carpets, and kalpaks is growing

In 2024, the volume of tourism goods produced in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 2.7 billion soms, which is 1.2% less than a year earlier. The decline is mainly due to a sharp drop in the production of souvenirs—by 43%—as well as a 9% decline in the production of mineral water.

Against the backdrop of declining interest in traditional souvenirs, tourists are increasingly choosing goods with practical value and national identity. The production of national carpets and men's caps almost doubled (1.9 times) over the year, while the production of yurts increased 1.6 times. Categories such as chess, backgammon, and fermented milk drinks also showed growth, with production increasing 1.4 times.

Thus, tourists' preferences are shifting from small souvenirs to authentic products that reflect the cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan.
