Trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan may reach $500 million in the medium term

As part of his working visit to Islamabad, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov met with Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif.

He noted the significant untapped potential in trade and economic cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Pakistan. The Head of the Cabinet of Ministers expressed confidence that the current trade turnover of $20 million can be increased to $100 million next year, and in the medium term to reach $500 million.

Particular attention was paid to the recently signed quadripartite agreement on goods transit transport between Pakistan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, which opens a sea outlet for our country through Pakistan. Akylbek Zhaparov said the Karakoram Highway should be developed as soon as possible to increase its capacity.

He also emphasised the improvement of the investment climate in Kyrgyzstan and proposed to set up the Kyrgyz-Pakistani Business Council to strengthen ties between entrepreneurs of both countries with the first meeting to be held in our country.

Shehbaz Sharif, in turn, expressed gratitude to the Kyrgyz Republic for Pakistan's support in the election of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2025-2026 and emphasised interest in expanding bilateral cooperation.

Akylbek Zhaparov invited the Prime Minister of Pakistan to visit Kyrgyzstan at any time convenient for him.
