07/29/2026, 12:22Bakyt Sydykov, Minister of Economy and Trade of the Kyrgyz Republic, spoke at the opening of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek Business Forum ‘Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan: Industrial Cooperation, Investment and Trade’.
The event was attended by representatives of government bodies and the business communities of both countries. Participants focused primarily on the development of joint production ventures, attracting investment and expanding trade and economic cooperation.
According to Bakyt Sydykov, promising areas for cooperation include heavy industry, mechanical engineering, automotive manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, as well as the development of transport, logistics and industrial infrastructure.
Separate discussions covered issues relating to the localisation of production, the manufacture of automotive components, technology transfer and the establishment of supply chains geared towards both domestic markets and exports.
In January–May 2026, trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan amounted to $440.8 million, which is 33.3 per cent higher than the figure for the same period in 2025. Imports from Uzbekistan reached $336.5 million, an increase of 1.7 times. Kyrgyzstan’s exports to its neighbour, by contrast, fell by 20.3 per cent to $23.3 million.
“Our common goal is to move from traditional trade towards deep industrial cooperation, the implementation of major investment projects and the creation of modern production facilities capable of competing successfully in regional and global markets,” the minister noted.
Kyrgyzstan will continue to develop industrial parks, free economic zones and transport and logistics infrastructure, as well as to improve investment legislation to create a favourable business environment.
