Trade turnover among BRICS countries has exceeded $1 trillion — experts have identified new drivers of cooperation

Intra-BRICS trade exceeded $1 trillion in 2025. This was announced by participants at the BRICS Business Council session entitled ‘New Drivers of Business Partnership within BRICS’ at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Experts from Russia, India, China, Brazil and South Africa agreed that the further development of the group would be facilitated by deeper financial cooperation, the expansion of settlements in national currencies, digitalisation, infrastructure projects and the development of a single payment system.

In India, which will hold the BRICS presidency in 2026, sustainable development, innovation and the strengthening of ties between member countries were identified as key priorities. China, which will take over the chairmanship in 2027, intends to focus on digital transformation, the ‘green’ economy and the development of financing mechanisms in national currencies.

Business representatives also highlighted the importance of practical cooperation between countries. The cooperation between Russia and Brazil in agriculture was cited as an example, where Russian fertilisers play a key role in ensuring growth in agricultural production.

Furthermore, Indonesia, having joined BRICS, hopes to use the bloc’s platform to attract investment, develop regional initiatives and expand economic ties.
