Ten villages in the Batken Region have been provided with access to clean drinking water

Drinking water supply systems have been commissioned in four aiyl aimaks in the Batken Region. As a result, 10 villages now have access to clean water. The Prime Minister, Adylbek Kasymaliev, took part in the opening ceremony via video link.

In the Kadamzhay District, water supply systems were built in the villages of Uch-Korgon, Kalyacha, Tegirmech and Chauvai in the Uch-Korgon aiyl aimak. As part of the project, 20,731 residents were provided with clean drinking water.

In addition, the water supply system in the village of Sovet was upgraded with financial support from the World Bank. The village has 346 registered households, home to 1,732 people. Of these, 290 households are supplied via water meters.

In the Batken district, work on the construction of drinking water supply systems was carried out in the villages of Samarkandek, Zhany-Bak, Pasky-Aryk, Ak-Tatyr and Orto-Boz. The project aims to provide clean water to 18,895 residents.

Previously, some of these villages lacked centralised water supply systems, so residents were forced to use water from irrigation canals or to transport it in.

The projects are being implemented as part of a programme to improve water supply and sanitation in the Batken and Talas regions. The total funding amounts to $60 million. Of this, $20 million is provided by the Islamic Development Bank, $30 million by the Saudi Fund for Development, and a further $10 million is contributed by Kyrgyzstan.

ARIS is responsible for implementing the project between 2020 and 2026. The programme covers 61 villages in the Batken and Talas regions and aims to provide clean drinking water to around 150,000 residents.
