A channel for transporting contraband goods and household appliances was shut down in the Batken region

The State Committee for National Security (SCNS) has shut down a well-established channel for the large-scale smuggling of consumer goods and household appliances across the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in the Leylek district of the Batken region.

Thus, within the framework of criminal cases initiated under Article 231, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, ‘Economic smuggling committed by an organised (cross-border) group or as part of a criminal community,’ citizens of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and China who, with the aim of illegally importing household appliances and consumer goods into Tajikistan by smuggling, created an organised cross-border group.

As a result of operational and investigative measures, citizens of China and the Kyrgyz Republic were detained for cross-border smuggling activities involving contraband goods worth approximately 29 million soms and placed in the GKNB's detention centres.

Investigative measures are currently underway.
