A new water supply system is being built in the Batken Region to serve more than 5,000 residents

A new drinking water supply system is being built in the village of Chek, in the Batken District of the Batken Region. The project involves laying more than 35 kilometres of water mains and constructing two clean water reservoirs.

The work is being carried out by the Department for the Development of Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation as part of the ‘Improvement of Climate-Resilient Water Services’ project.

The existing water supply system was built in 1972. Due to significant wear and tear, it fails to ensure a stable supply of high-quality drinking water.

As part of the project, plans are in place to build two clean water reservoirs, each with a capacity of 700 cubic metres, and to lay over 35 kilometres of water mains.

It is expected that, once the work is completed, more than 5,000 villagers will be provided with high-quality and safe drinking water. The new system will also improve the reliability of the water supply and help reduce the number of breakdowns and water wastage.

In addition to residential buildings, an uninterrupted water supply is planned for the village’s community facilities. These include two secondary schools, two nurseries, a paramedic and midwifery centre, a community centre, a sports hall, the aiyl okmotu building and four mosques.

Construction began in July 2026. The work is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2028.
