The visit is organized as part of the development of strategic cooperation between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and UNIDO within the framework of the Country Partnership Program for the Kyrgyz Republic for 2025-2029 (CPP), in which the pharmaceutical industry is identified as one of the priority areas.
UNIDO experts met with representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Ministry of Health, and domestic pharmaceutical companies in Bishkek. During the meeting, they discussed priorities for the development of the pharmaceutical industry, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) requirements for GMP standards, and mechanisms to support the modernization of pharmaceutical production.
On the same day, a workshop was held on “Strengthening the pharmaceutical industry's compliance with good manufacturing practice (GMP) requirements: assessment results, international standards, and next steps,” with the participation of representatives of government agencies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and international experts.
During the event, UNIDO experts presented the results of an assessment of the level of compliance of domestic pharmaceutical companies with GMP requirements, as well as an overview of international standards and regulatory practices. Particular attention was paid to the importance of implementing GMP standards to improve the quality and safety of medicines, as well as to expand the export opportunities of Kyrgyz manufacturers, including in the markets of the Eurasian Economic Union countries.
In addition, participants were presented with the results of a survey of pharmaceutical manufacturers conducted by UNIDO to determine the current level of readiness of the industry to implement GMP standards and identify key areas for further development and modernization of production processes.
As part of the mission, UNIDO experts will also conduct technical visits to pharmaceutical companies in the country to assess the current level of GMP implementation and identify needs for technical and expert support.
The final meeting of the mission will take place on March 12, 2026, and its results will determine further steps to develop cooperation and prepare a technical support initiative aimed at strengthening the production capacity of the pharmaceutical industry in Kyrgyzstan.
The implementation of this initiative is expected to contribute to improving the quality and safety of medicines, developing the national pharmaceutical industry, and expanding the export potential of domestic manufacturers.
