11/27/2025, 17:32Today, Bishkek launched the 2025 Water Supply and Sanitation Forum: ‘Sustainable and Innovative Services.’
The need for such discussions is driven by the fact that the industry faces serious challenges: outdated infrastructure, lack of investment, growing water consumption and climate impact. More than 30% of the rural population still does not have stable access to safe drinking water.

Minister Bakyt Torobaev noted that in recent years, large-scale work has been carried out in the country: water supply and sanitation projects are being implemented in more than 600 settlements and 24 cities. According to him, this is the largest infrastructure process in the sector's recent history, setting a new direction for development.
At the forum, participants discussed how modern solutions can improve the quality of services and the resilience of water systems to climate risks.
The forum concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Department of Drinking Water Supply and Wastewater Management and the Iskhak Razzakov Kyrgyz Technical University.
The forum is supported by the World Bank and is intended to be an important step towards the formation of a unified strategy for the development of water supply and sanitation in Kyrgyzstan.
