A crackdown on vehicles emitting smoke took place in Bishkek: fines totalling 22,500 KGS were issued

A joint operation was carried out in the Kok-Zhar residential area of Bishkek by the Environmental and Technical Supervision Service and officers from the Road Safety Service. Following the checks, offenders were fined a total of 22,500 KGS. This was reported by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

During the operation, specialists checked vehicles for compliance with established emission standards. Particular attention was paid to vehicles emitting thick black smoke from their exhaust pipes.

Following the checks, administrative reports were drawn up against drivers who had breached the requirements of Article 234 of the Code of the Kyrgyz Republic on Administrative Offences. The total amount of fines imposed was 22,500 KGS.

The Ministry of Natural Resources pointed out that thick black smoke and toxic exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur compounds and fine particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10). These substances pollute the air and increase the risk of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
