02/10/2025, 09:33On 7 February 2024, a retreat on the project ‘Lake Issyk-Kul Ecology Management for Sustainable Tourism Development’ was held in Cholpon-Ata. The project is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and envisages an investment of $56 million.
The main issue of the meeting was the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Cholpon-Ata. First Deputy Director of the State Construction Committee Samat Janteliev, Mayor of Cholpon-Ata Daniyar Satarov, Country Director of ADB's Permanent Mission in Kyrgyzstan Zheng Wu, and representatives of relevant agencies took part in the discussion. The meeting participants noted that the project implementation will start in March 2025.
The project includes not only the construction of treatment facilities, but also the laying of a sewer collector from Bosteri to Kara-Oi. The programme also includes reconstruction of the Saimaly-Tash Petroglyphic Museum and other museum facilities in Cholpon-Ata. In addition, a 19-kilometre bicycle path and recreation areas will appear on the lake shore.
The implementation of these measures is aimed at improving the environmental condition of the region and strengthening its tourism potential.
