Digitalization of rail freight transport is accelerating in the EAEU

EAEU Trade Minister Andrei Slepnev said that EAEU countries are actively switching to electronic transport documents in rail transport. By the end of 2024, the level of electronic data exchange between Russian Railways and the railways of Belarus reached 90%, with Kazakhstan – 79%, and between Kazakh and Kyrgyz carriers – over 80%.

Active work is underway on digitalization with China: the volume of correct electronic messages between Russian and Chinese railways reached 90%, and with Kazakhstan – 80–90%. As part of the Intertrans project, Russian Railways already accepts documents with electronic signatures for customs procedures. Test paperless transport operations have also been launched across the Zabaikalsk-Manchuria border crossing.

The digitalization of railway logistics reduces business costs, simplifies customs procedures, and speeds up the movement of goods. The leaders of the EAEU countries and observer states emphasize that digital transformation, including AI and electronic document management, is becoming an integral part of the union's integration agenda.
