The number of electric vehicles in Kyrgyzstan has exceeded 15,000

Kyrgyzstan is expanding its vehicle fleet while simultaneously attempting to make it more environmentally friendly. As of January 1, there were 1,909,961 vehicles registered in the republic. This is 13% more than in 2024. In fact, this represents an increase of more than 200,000 vehicles in two years.

But the main question is: what do Kyrgyz people drive? The structure of the vehicle fleet shows that classic cars are still winning.

In other words, more than two-thirds of cars still run on traditional fuel. However, it is in the alternative technologies segment that the most active growth is observed.

While in 2022 there were only 1,113 electric vehicles in the country, by the end of 2025 their number had reached 15,278. In the last year alone, 9,870 electric cars were registered — almost a threefold increase. Despite this, their share is still modest — 0.8% of the total car fleet. But the growth rates indicate the formation of a new market segment.

Another important trend is vehicle renewal. The share of cars less than five years old grew from 1.5% in 2024 to 4.5% in 2025. This means that the market is gradually clearing out old cars and shifting toward more modern and, as a rule, less harmful models.

Infrastructure is also catching up. More than 100 electric charging stations have already been installed in Bishkek, laying the foundation for further growth in electric transport. In addition, the launch of a “green taxi” project in the capital is being discussed in conjunction with the National Investment Fund. The idea is to create a fleet of eco-friendly taxis, which could become the first large-scale urban case of “green” mobility.
