Reverse vending machines for PET bottles and cans may be introduced in Kyrgyzstan

The Ministry of Natural Resources held a ‘Green Entrepreneur’ roundtable with business representatives to discuss combating plastic pollution and the introduction of reverse vending machines.

As part of its policy to combat plastic pollution, the Ministry of Natural Resources organised a round table entitled ‘Green Entrepreneur’ with the participation of business representatives, including Shoro LLC, Coca-Cola Bishkek Bottlers LLC, Asia Retail LLC, Umai Group LLC, Partner Neft LLC and plastic recycling companies.

The parties discussed joint cooperation in a ‘government + business’ format to develop the circular economy, improve companies’ ESG ratings and promote the ‘Green Entrepreneur’ brand. First Deputy Minister Zhenish Seydaliev emphasised that business plays a key role in the transition to a circular economy and the country’s sustainable development.

“Plastic pollution is a global problem, but Kyrgyzstan can become a leader in Central Asia thanks to innovation and partnerships,” he noted.

Particular attention was paid to the introduction of modern green technologies, including reverse vending machines with a bonus system for returning clean PET bottles and aluminium cans, as well as the transition to eco-friendly bags. The best locations for installing reverse vending machines are retail chains, markets, petrol stations, food courts and educational institutions.

The round table concluded with a decision on further cooperation and the implementation of pilot projects aimed at achieving zero plastic pollution in the country.
