According to him, it is currently difficult to give an exact figure for the number of cars with foreign number plates that will undergo legalisation. For example, during last year’s campaign, it was estimated that 15,000–20,000 cars would be legalised. However, the actual number reached 30,000.
This year, the number of cars due for legalisation is expected to be around 5,000. However, the exact number remains unknown — no government body has complete information.
The first legalisation of vehicles with foreign number plates took place in Kyrgyzstan from 1 April to 1 October 2025. In total, more than 30,000 vehicles were legalised, and over 1.8 billion soms were paid into the budget.
Meanwhile, citizens who did not manage to register their vehicles last year have asked the authorities to grant them another opportunity. They are now permitted to register their vehicles from 10 July to 1 September. Those who fail to register their vehicles within this period will no longer have this opportunity.
Only vehicles with foreign number plates imported into Kyrgyzstan before 31 December 2024 are eligible for legalisation.
The cost of legalisation remains the same: owners of cars with an engine capacity of up to 2 cubic centimetres (litres) must pay 50,000 KGS, and those with an engine capacity of over 2 cubic centimetres must pay 100,000 soms. Owners of electric vehicles with foreign number plates must also pay 50,000 KGS.
