06/27/2025, 12:48Kyrgyzstan resumes work on the development of pedigree horse breeding. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev during a visit to the Center for the development of thoroughbred horse breeding in Cholpon-Ata.
According to him, the main goal of all subjects of the industry is to improve the productive and breeding qualities of horses with the help of modern genetic and biotechnological methods. Today in the country there are up to 30 thousand tons of horse meat in live weight and about 5-6 thousand tons of mare's milk per year, used for making koumiss. At the same time, the meat direction accounts for about 26-30% of the total livestock.
According to the Minister, special attention is paid to sport breeds - both for traditional and classical equestrian sports.
"One of our key tasks is the restoration and reorganization of state stud farms. This is necessary to preserve the gene pool of the Kyrgyz horse. As part of this work, the Center in Cholpon-Ata and horse farm No. 54 were transferred from the Ministry of Culture to the Ministry of Agriculture," Torobaev said.
