Kyrgyzstan has raised the age limit for signing a military contract

The Cabinet of Ministers has amended the regulations governing contract military service, the recruitment of officers and the selection of military personnel for training at military educational institutions.

One of the key changes concerns the age at which a contract can be signed. Men will now be able to enlist for contract military service until they reach the age of 40, instead of the previous age limit of 37.

The amendments also stipulate that military personnel may remain at the disposal of the command for up to five years if their spouse has been transferred to serve in units directly guarding the state border and there are no employment opportunities at their new place of service.

In addition, the procedure for service by citizens called up from the reserve has been clarified. If, upon arrival at their place of service, they refuse to sign a contract, the order appointing them will be revoked.

The document also amends the rules for appointing warrant officers and service personnel with higher education to officer posts, with the simultaneous conferral of their first officer rank.

Another new provision allows officers, subject to an individual decision by the command, to combine military service with scientific, teaching, inventive or expert activities, as well as medical practice in state and municipal healthcare institutions.

In addition, the rules for selecting military personnel for training at foreign military educational institutions have been updated. For the first time, provisions have been laid down regarding the training of doctoral students and PhD candidates (adjuncts), setting out the requirements for candidates, age limits and the competitive selection procedure.

The decree will come into force 15 days after its official publication.
