A centralised electricity metering system worth $10.5 million is now operational in Kyrgyzstan

A Centralised Automated Commercial Electricity Metering System (ASKUE) has become operational in Kyrgyzstan, with the aim of digitising the metering and management of energy consumption.

The project has been underway since 2023, initiated by the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic with the support of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The total project budget is $10.5 million.

As part of the project, the Republic of Korea has provided state-of-the-art server equipment and 10,618 smart meters.

The data centre, based at OJSC ‘National Electric Grid of Kyrgyzstan’, has become the system’s core component. It handles the reception, processing and centralised management of data received from smart meters installed throughout the country.

The data centre’s capacity is designed to support up to 1.5 million smart meters. The system automatically receives information on electricity consumption, analyses the load on the grid and enables the identification of technical and commercial losses.

The implementation of the ASKUE system will improve the accuracy of electricity metering, reduce the impact of human error in calculations, enhance control over losses and establish a unified information base for management decision-making in the energy sector.

The creation of the data centre has become one of the stages in the digitalisation of Kyrgyzstan’s energy sector and the development of ‘smart’ energy technologies.
