Wool processing to be expanded in Kyrgyzstan: Wool KG to create over 50 jobs

The wool processing company Wool KG in Bishkek is expanding its production. This will enable the company to increase the processing of local raw materials, create over 50 new jobs and boost exports of finished products.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture Erlist Akunbekov visited Wool KG, which specialises in the collection, washing and processing of domestic wool, as well as the production of carded wool.

Every year, the company purchases around 400 tonnes of wool from farmers in the Issyk-Kul, Naryn, Talas and Chui regions. The company currently employs 71 people.

As part of a project to expand production, plans are in place to create more than 50 new jobs. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this will increase the volume of raw materials processed domestically, boost the added value of products and expand exports.

During his visit, Erlist Akunbekov stated that the development of the processing industry remains a priority of state policy.

“Our main objective is not to export raw materials, but to process them domestically and increase the production of finished goods,” the minister noted.

Kyrgyzstan has traditionally produced significant volumes of sheep’s wool; however, the majority of the raw materials are exported without undergoing extensive processing. The development of processing enterprises makes it possible to increase the added value of products and create new jobs.
