Kyrgyzstan allowed the circulation of recyclable plastic utensils and PET bottles

President Sadyr Zhaparov signed amendments to the law concerning the turnover of plastic bags and products. PET bottles and disposable plastic tableware are now allowed in Kyrgyzstan if they are recyclable.

Previously, the law banned virtually all types of single-use plastic products, including food packaging, bottles, utensils, egg cartons and food nets. However, the ban has now been relaxed, with only products that cannot be recycled falling under the full restriction.

Which plastic products can be used will be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers. The law has already been adopted by the Parliament and will come into force 10 days after its official publication.

The amendments were made to bring Kyrgyz legislation in line with the EAEU rules and the technical regulations on packaging safety
