Kyrgyzstan has authorised the reduction of the sanitary zone around anthrax outbreaks

In Kyrgyzstan, it will now be possible to reduce the sanitary protection zone around anthrax outbreaks; however, the distance to residential buildings and other facilities must be at least 100 metres. The relevant decree was signed by the Prime Minister, Adylbek Kasymaliev.

The decision to reduce the zone may be taken by the Chief State Veterinary Inspector. It will apply to the distance from the outbreak site to residential and public buildings, social facilities, livestock farms, livestock markets, slaughterhouses, industrial facilities and warehouses.

The sanitary zone may only be reduced if several conditions are met. Soil samples from the outbreak area must test negative when analysed by an independent accredited laboratory. In addition, a positive conclusion based on the results of scientific research will be required, as well as a recommendation and conclusion from a special commission.

The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and the Processing Industry has been instructed to take the necessary measures to implement the document.
