Kyrgyzstan grows twice as much sugar beet per capita as Kazakhstan

Kyrgyzstan continues to rank high within the Eurasian Economic Union in terms of sugar beet production per capita, despite a significant decline in the harvest in 2025.

According to data from the Eurasian Commission, in 2025, each resident of Kyrgyzstan accounted for 73 kilograms of sugar beets. By this measure, the republic ranked second among EAEU countries after Belarus, where the figure reached 649 kilograms per person.

For comparison:

  • in Kazakhstan, production amounted to 36 kilograms per person;
  • in Armenia—practically zero;
  • data for Russia for 2025 has not yet been published.

At the same time, as recently as 2024, Kyrgyzstan recorded a record 133 kilograms of sugar beets per capita. This was one of the republic’s best results in recent years.

At the same time, the country’s total sugar beet production also declined in 2025. While Kyrgyzstan harvested 957,000 tons of sugar beets in 2024, the figure dropped to 539,000 tons in 2025—a decrease of nearly 44%.

Despite the decline, the republic still significantly outpaces Kazakhstan in sugar beet production per capita and remains one of the EAEU states with the highest sugar beet production.

Across the EAEU as a whole, 56.1 million tons of sugar beets were produced in 2025. Russia remains the union’s largest producer, with a volume of nearly 48.95 million tons.
