03/26/2025, 15:59On 19 March 2025, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan amended the regulation ‘On the procedure for exchange operations with cash foreign currency in the Kyrgyz Republic’.
According to the new rules, from 1 May 2025, commercial banks, exchange bureaus and other authorised organisations will be able to set a commission when exchanging old US dollars.
Earlier Akchabar editorial board wrote that old dollars, coming to Kyrgyzstan mainly from Russia, are gradually losing their liquidity. Despite the fact that there were no official restrictions on their circulation, some banks and exchange bureaus already refused to accept them.
Now the situation has changed - financial organisations have been given the right to charge a commission for the exchange of old-style banknotes.
