Compared to 2024, the number of counterfeit bills detected increased tenfold. At that time, only five counterfeits with a total value of 18,000 KGS were discovered.
At the same time, the total value of the counterfeit money detected rose by 30,300 KGS, or 2.7 times.
Despite the increase in the number of counterfeits, the National Bank assesses the level of counterfeiting in the country as low. On average, there is 0.17 counterfeit banknote for every 1 million genuine banknotes.
Law enforcement agencies have initiated criminal cases for each incident and taken measures in accordance with the law.
The National Bank also continued its public awareness campaign, “The KGS—the Face of Kyrgyzstan.” The public was informed about the security features of banknotes, how to verify their authenticity, and the procedure for exchanging worn or damaged currency. Special training was provided to tellers at financial institutions on how to detect counterfeit currency.
