01/22/2026, 15:39The Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, Taalaibek Ibraev, held a meeting with the management of the consortium of companies GPRC, NRP and KCG. The parties discussed the development of the country's energy system and the prospects for implementing new projects in the sector.
During the negotiations, the head of the Ministry of Energy presented the results of work over the past 2-3 years and outlined the priority areas for further development of the industry. In particular, he proposed to consider the possibility of building thermal power plants based on coal deposits in Kyrgyzstan.
Representatives of the consortium expressed their readiness to develop, finance and build three thermal power plants with a capacity of 350 MW each. The total installed capacity of the facilities will be 1,050 MW. The project is to be implemented using clean coal technologies that comply with international environmental standards. The participants of the meeting emphasised that they have experience in the construction of similar energy facilities.
It is noted that the use of modern technologies will ensure reliable, environmentally safe and uninterrupted coal-based power generation.
To implement the project, it is planned to conduct comprehensive studies of coal deposits. This will include studying ash content, moisture content, volatile matter yield, sulphur and phosphorus content, and fuel calorific value.
Taalaybek Ibraev emphasised the importance of high-quality scientific and technical development of the project and assured that the Ministry of Energy would provide comprehensive support within the scope of its authority.
