02/19/2025, 09:34From 20 February 2025, the replacement of the fourth hydropower unit at the Toktogul HPP will begin, which will increase the plant's capacity by 60 MW. Full modernisation of all units will raise the capacity to 1,440 MW. The work is being carried out by French company GE Hydro.
On 1 March, the reconstruction of the second hydro unit at HPP ‘Yich-Korgon’ will start under the supervision of Chinese CNEEC, which will add 9 MW of capacity. Some of the equipment at the plant has not been renewed since 1962.
During the reconstruction period, Toktogul's capacity will be temporarily reduced by 300 MW and Ych-Korgon's by 45 MW. The Ministry of Energy is negotiating the import of electricity to avoid shortages during the autumn-winter period.
