In Kyrgyzstan, one social worker serves an average of 11 people

There are currently 854 social workers employed in the home-based social assistance system in Kyrgyzstan. As of January 1, they are serving 9,452 people in need of support. The data was provided by the Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration.

Thus, on average, there are about 11 clients per specialist.

Among those receiving social services at home are:

  • 3,819 single elderly citizens;
  • 2,313 persons with disabilities;
  • 350 married couples;
  • 2,971 families in difficult life situations.

Social workers provide support to citizens who have partially lost their ability to move independently, elderly people living alone, and families in difficult circumstances. This includes not only domestic assistance, but also psychological and social support.

According to the established requirements, each person under care must receive assistance at least twice a week. Visitation schedules are approved by the heads of regional administrations.

To receive social assistance at home, a written request is required from local authorities, neighbors, or relatives of the citizen in need.

The Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration notes that it continues to work to improve the accessibility and quality of social services. However, the figures show a significant burden on the system.
