05/20/2026, 10:23An initial investment of $25 million will be channelled into the Besh-Burhan coalfield in the Nookat district of the Osh region. This was announced by the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan following a visit to the mine by Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev.
The investor’s funds will be used to develop the mine’s infrastructure, carry out underground works and purchase modern equipment.
According to the ministry, the total coal reserves at the deposit amount to 42.225 million tonnes. The site covers an area of 317.2 hectares, of which 7 hectares are allocated for the production site.
According to the technical design, once the mine reaches full capacity, it will be able to produce up to 900,000 tonnes of coal per year. It is also expected to create 80 new jobs for local residents.
In 2025, as part of mining preparation and capital works at the deposit, 5,000 tonnes of coal had already been extracted.
The Minister of Energy noted that the development of the coal industry remains one of the key areas for strengthening the country’s energy security. According to him, the launch of ‘Besh-Burkhan’ will reduce the southern regions of Kyrgyzstan’s dependence on imported fuel and strengthen the supply of coal to the domestic market.
