Russia is facing a labour shortage: even the entire population of Kyrgyzstan would not be enough to fill the gap

Over the next five years, Russia will need to fill around 11 million job vacancies due to staff retiring. This was reported by RBC, citing statements from the Russian authorities.

In addition, by 2030, the Russian economy will need a further 3.1 million workers, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak. According to him, the labour shortage has already become “today’s challenge”.

Kyrgyzstan’s population stands at around 7.4 million people. In other words, even if every single resident of the republic were to move to Russia, this would not be enough to cover the projected labour shortage.

The greatest labour shortages in Russia are expected in industry, construction, transport, housing and communal services, education and healthcare. The Russian authorities plan to redeploy workers to priority sectors of the economy and step up the training of specialists.
