According to the Labour Code, Kyrgyz citizens who have reached the age of 16 are allowed to work. In certain cases, teenagers aged 15 may be employed with the consent of a representative body of workers or an authorised state labour authority.
It is also permissible to conclude an employment contract with students aged 14 and older, subject to the written consent of one of their parents (guardian, custodian) or the guardianship and custody authority. Such teenagers may only perform light work that is not harmful to their health and does not interfere with their education, exclusively during their free time.
The legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic provides for restrictions on the length of the working day: for teenagers aged 14 to 16, no more than 5 hours per day; for teenagers aged 16 to 18, no more than 7 hours per day.
If a minor combines work with study, the working hours are reduced: 14-16 years old — no more than 2.5 hours per day; 16-18 years old — no more than 3.5 hours per day.
The Ministry also emphasises that employers are obliged to comply with all labour law requirements when hiring minors.
