Staffing Levels at Medical Facilities Assessed in Naryn

During a working visit, Health Minister Damir Osmonov toured healthcare facilities in Naryn Region, including the At-Bashin District General Practice Center, the Naryn Regional Family Medicine Center, the Naryn Regional General Hospital, and the Kochkor District General Practice Center.

During his visit to the At-Bashin District General Hospital, the minister familiarized himself with the work of various departments, including internal medicine, surgery, infectious diseases, obstetrics, and pediatrics. The hospital has a capacity of 110 beds and serves a population of approximately 50,000, of whom more than 13,000 are children under the age of 14.

Particular attention was paid to staffing. In 2025, seven young specialists were recruited to the facility, including an obstetrician-gynecologist, a pediatrician, an infectious disease specialist, an intensive care physician, and other doctors.

At the same time, the facility continues to face a staffing shortage: of the 42 doctors, about half are of pre-retirement or retirement age, and 24 positions remain vacant. The need to recruit more experienced specialists was emphasized, including for mentoring and improving the practical skills of young doctors.

At the same time, the district is creating conditions to attract personnel, including a 19-room dormitory and staff housing.

The minister also familiarized himself with the use of a modern laparoscopic device received as part of a Japanese grant. The need for further professional development of specialists was noted, including by bringing in experienced doctors from Bishkek to conduct training surgical procedures on-site.

At the Naryn Regional General Hospital, the minister inspected preparations for the launch of new facilities, including the installation of an angiograph and the development of a catheterization laboratory, and familiarized himself with the work of the cardiology department and its modern equipment.

During the visit, the minister held meetings with medical staff, discussed current issues—including staffing and infrastructure development—and issued a series of directives for their resolution.

The minister also visited the Kochkor District Central District Hospital, where he reviewed the progress of construction on the new building.

“We see that even with young specialists on staff, the workload remains high. Therefore, our task is to simultaneously strengthen staffing capacity and create conditions for doctors to work in local communities. Starting this April, a salary increase for medical workers is planned, which should serve as an additional incentive to attract specialists to the regions. The example of the At-Bashy Central District Hospital shows that, with housing and support, it is possible to build stable teams of doctors”, — noted Damir Osmonov.
