10/19/2026, 18:10Work has begun in Osh on the redevelopment of the site of the former central market, covering an area of approximately one kilometre. The plan is to create a modern leisure area here, featuring green spaces and a tourist village.
According to the city council, the Mayor of Osh, Zhanarbek Akayev, today presented the plans for the future leisure area to the public.
As part of the project, a green space will be created on the site, and facilities for walking and relaxation will be provided for residents and visitors to the city. The project also provides for compliance with environmental requirements and the preservation of a 50-metre water protection zone along the Ak-Buura River. Work to clean up the riverbank area will continue.
Furthermore, there are plans to build a tourist village on this site, which will reflect the unique architecture of ancient Osh, its history, cultural heritage and national values.
Previously, this site was a bustling commercial hub. Now, the intention is to transform the area into a public space that combines historical heritage with a modern urban environment.
The new park is scheduled to open in May 2027.
