Reconstruction of the strategically important Aravan-Ak-Buurinsky Canal has begun in the Osh region

Work on the irrigation facility began on October 24. After reconstruction, the canal will provide water to more than 16,000 hectares of land.

Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev officially launched the reconstruction of the Aravan-Ak-Buurinsky Canal during a working trip to the Osh region.

The canal, built in 1968, runs through the Zhapalak aiyl aimak of Osh, as well as the Toloykon and Kyzyl-Kyshtak aiyl aimaks of the Kara-Suu district and the Kerme-Too aiyl aimak of the Aravan district. All the land along the canal is suitable for irrigation, and the main source of water supply is the Ak-Buura River.

The canal's hydraulic structures were built more than 40 years ago and are now in a state of disrepair.

Once the work is complete, the Aravan-Ak-Buura Canal will provide a stable water supply to more than 16,000 hectares of agricultural land, reduce water losses, improve the distribution system, and prevent the risk of mudslides and floods. This will increase the sustainability of the agricultural sector and crop yields in the region.

"The Aravan-Ak-Buurinsky Canal is a facility of particular importance for agriculture in the Osh region and the entire southern region. Its modernization will give new impetus to the work of thousands of farmers. After the completion of the reconstruction, a stable water supply will be provided to more than 16,000 hectares, which will allow farmers to increase their yields. The government's main goal is to effectively manage water resources and provide water to every farm," said Bakyt Torobaev.
