A municipal water supply company is to be established in the Panfilov District

In the Panfilov District of the Chui Region, discussions took place regarding the establishment of a municipal company that will be responsible for drinking water supply and wastewater disposal. There are plans to set up such companies in eight districts of Kyrgyzstan.

At the meeting, participants were briefed on how the new service provider would operate, the sources of its funding, and how responsibility for maintaining the water supply systems would be transferred to it. The infrastructure will, however, remain the property of the local authorities.

Participants supported the establishment of the enterprise. The next steps involve preparing the necessary documentation, submitting the matter for consideration at sessions of the aiyl councils, and gradually concluding agreements between the aiyl okmotu and the new enterprise.

The establishment of a district service provider forms part of the water sector reform. The new model is expected to improve the quality and reliability of drinking water supply and wastewater services for residents of the Panfilov District.

The reform is being implemented as part of the ‘Universal Access to Water Supply and Sanitation. Phase 1’ programme. It aims to provide safe drinking water and modern wastewater services to 126 rural settlements in the Osh, Chui and Issyk-Kul regions. More than 450,000 residents are set to be provided with clean water.
