Russia proposes paying rewards for reporting illegal migrants

Members of the State Duma from the New People faction have appealed to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs with a proposal to introduce monetary rewards for citizens who provide reliable information about violations of migration laws by foreigners.

According to RIA Novosti, the idea is to create a “payment for vigilance” system: a person who reports an illegal immigrant will receive a portion of the income that the state receives as a result of fines and confiscation of the offender's property.

According to the initiative, it is proposed to increase the fine for violating the migration regime to 100,000 rubles, with the property of illegal migrants, including money, being confiscated by the state. Half of these funds will be transferred to the applicant. Deputies are confident that the financial incentive will increase citizens' activity in identifying violators.
